IB PYP in Reception Class

Inquiry-based learning continues in our KIS Reception class (age 5), where a strong International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program provides our young students with the best possible continuity into lifelong learning.

In Reception, your son/daughter will continue to benefit from KIS’s commitment to a high teacher to child ratio, as the average class size is 18 students with one lead teacher and one teacher’s aid. This ensures the ability to continue child-centered learning where students are encouraged to pursue inquiries and develop within their individual learning styles. Lead teachers are highly qualified and experienced native English speakers (or meet standards equivalent of a native English speaker).

The English language is the language of instruction for our KIS Reception class. Our Reception students are fully immersed in the IB PYP, completing six Units of Inquiry throughout the year, along with English language arts and reading, mathematics, Russian, physical education, music and the arts, and computer class. Your Reception-aged child will experience all of this within a week at KIS, along with learning to model the IB Learner Profile and IB Attitudes throughout their day-to-day learning experiences.

Reception students, along with every KIS student, track their academic progress in “Portfolios,” designed for students to track their own growth as a learner throughout the year, as well as provide important communication with parents and teachers regarding their academic developments. The Portfolios will be kept in the classroom where students have access to them.
