IB PYP in Preschool

Our KIS preschoolers enjoy their new campus—the KIS Early Years Campus at Edelweiss.

From our beginning, KIS has been highly regarded for offering the best preschool program in the city—child-centered, inquiry-based learning.  That KIS tradition continues, as we have implemented the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program with all our preschool students, ensuring we provide these young students with the best beginning in becoming life-long learners.

Our KIS preschool classrooms provide a stimulating environment for young children, ages 3-6 years old. Research, based on a variety of studies, has shown that preschool attendance increases the potential academic success in the life of your child.

Everything in our IB PYP preschool classrooms is child-sized. Materials are laid out in an orderly fashion; everything in its own place and within easy reach of our young students. This promotes independence and helps stimulate an inquiry or curiosity based attitude toward learning. Our preschool environments are simple yet pleasing—not over stimulating or over-crowded.

KIS is committed to a very high teacher to child ratio in our IB PYP preschool—averaging 1 teacher for every 5 children. This ensures that every child is encouraged to develop their curiosity within a stimulating classroom as well as within their own learning style. Lead teachers are highly qualified and experienced native English speakers (or meet standards equivalent of a native English speaker).

Within our KIS preschool, the language of instruction is English. Russian and Kazakh language training is also available for parents who choose this option for their children.

KIS preschoolers, like every KIS student, track their academic progress in “Portfolios,” designed for students to track their own growth as a learner throughout the year, as well as provide important communication with parents and teachers regarding their academic developments. The Portfolios will be kept in the classroom where students have access to them with teacher permission.

As our KIS preschoolers near the end of their preschool years, they have developed a strong sense of self, are confident in mastering projects on their own, and are well-prepared for ongoing exploration in education as independent learners.
