Apply to KIS

Admittance to KIS

KIS exists to serve the educational needs of the internationally mobile residents of Almaty as well as the local community. If a waiting list for any grade is necessary, qualified applicants will be admitted on a “first come, first serve” basis.

Enrollment and Placement

Parents who intend to enroll their children at KIS must submit a completed application for each student. Admission is granted to a student when it has been determined that KIS has an appropriate program to meet the individual needs of that child.

Student’s records must be available for reference, including birth certificate and school leaving certificate. Further assessment may be conducted as necessary.

Students are accepted throughout the year but will be placed in a grade or class according to the determination made by the administration. The cut-off date to establish a grade for a new enrollment is September 30 of the current school year. All children must be the appropriate age for each grade by this date. The principal’s decision in such matters will be final. This placement will reflect the student’s previous educational experience, age, maturity, and the outcome of the appropriate placement exam.

At least one full day’s notice is given to teachers prior to a new student starting class, after the admission arrangements have been completed. This ensures that all the necessary provisions be made and the student is expected.

All placements are “provisional,” in that they may be reviewed during the child’s first term. If a review is requested, then parents will be given the opportunity to meet and discuss their concerns with their child’s teachers. Following this meeting, the teachers will undertake an observational period to assess and review the child’s social and academic situation.

In realistic terms, this review process may take between 3-6 weeks to allow the child to settle into the class situation and show his/her capability and maturity and for the teachers to make a rational assessment based on the social and academic needs of the child.
